Spangles Versus Sequins

                  Sequins             Sequin Transfer            Spangles

What is the difference in spangles and sequins?

A sequin has two main features. A hole in the middle so that a thread can be run through the sequin. These are applied with embroidery machines. The downside is not only the hole in the middle but also the thread that holds them together making them subject to thread damage and breakage.

Traditional Sequins
Hot fix sequins, or sequin transfers, still have a hole in the middle. Being that there is a hole, you have to take the color of the fabric into your design and so they do not show through very well. They look great, but there is still a hole in the middle just like sequins.

Sequin Transfer

The spangle design is completely different. One of the reasons spangles look so spectacular is because there is no hole in the middle! This makes it so you get clean coverage with each color. Another attractive feature is that when you run your hand over spangles they are completely smooth. Unlike when you run your hand over sequins, spangles lay completely smooth on the fabric.
Spangles are also incredibly lightweight so you can use them on a collar or even on lingerie because spangles do not affect the lay of the material at all.
Not only are spangles great looking, smooth, and lightweight, but they are also completely lead-free making them absolutely safe for children and infant clothing as well.
